Today when I met Anna for lunch
at my favorite Café Barbette
on Lake Street and we sat at the best
little sunny table in the whole place
(which Anna recognized just as I had
recognized it the first time I saw it)
we had a glass of vin rouge
and shared a beet chèvre salade
and the thin crispy french frites
with béarnaise sauce
and fromage et fruit with
honey, almonds and apricot preserve.
Afterward we stood
on the corner outside
and looked up at the sun
with our faces tilted up
hugging like two little sisters
and it felt just like we
had actually been in France
for a lovely while.
In the middle of the day
in the middle of the week
in Minneapolis.
And it was perfectly delightful.
