My very generous and talented friend Anna Dvorak made this fabulous drink at the herb class she taught in honor of my birthday a couple of weeks ago.
I’ve been craving the flavors of lime and basil in a glass of slushy goodness ever since.
It’s great as a cocktail of course, but equally yummy as a non-alcoholic drink, and my kids love it. It’s a fantastic way to partake of the lush quantities of fresh basil available this time of year.
And now you will get to enjoy this refreshing drink as well.
Thanks for making my life taste so much better, Anna!
Lime Basil Slushies “à la Anna”
8 cups of ice
4 cups of water
3 cups of fresh lime juice
3 cups lightly packed fresh basil leaves, plus basil sprigs, for garnish
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 1/2 cups of soda water or mineral water
(reduce water by 1 cup and add 1 cup of vodka, gin or rum to make this a cocktail)
In a blender, working in batches, blend the ice with the water, lime juice, basil leaves and sugar until slushy. Pour the limeade into chilled glasses. Top with an ounce of the soda water, garnish with the basil sprigs and serve.
