Here’s another wonderful piece of advice my previous boss, David Norgard, gave me.
When he noticed that I was having a hard time dealing with criticism and could almost never remember the positive feedback I had received in the past…he suggested something very simple that has helped me tremendously.
He told me to take a plain old manila file folder out of the drawer and write “bouquets” on it. Then, every time someone wrote or said something nice to me, I needed to print it out or write it down and put it into the folder. That way, when I was feeling particularly insecure or stung by criticism, I could go to the file and gain a little perspective.
Seems simple, but it made a big difference.
