Many of the most amazing people I know are small business owners. Whether artists or musicians, inventors, shop owners or professionals, they all inspire me.
And I can attest to the fact that it takes a lot of courage to put one’s own ideas, creations, services and products out into the marketplace to be measured up against all others.
So I am excited to see that we are all getting some well-deserved attention through a new initiative called Small Business Saturday. American Express is sponsoring this event to encourage people to support their local small businesses.*
November 27, 2010 is the first-ever Small Business SaturdaySM.
FOUR REASONS TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS
1. For every $100 spent at local small businesses, $68 returns to the community.
2. Small businesses employ half of all private sector employees.
3. Small businesses represent 99.7% of all employer firms.
4. For every year over the last decade, 60-80% of new jobs were generated by small businesses.
So, this week, go ahead out and find some amazing deals at big box stores on Black Friday, but save some of your holiday shopping for Saturday. You won’t regret the personalized service, unique gift selection, and great feeling you get from supporting someone local and knowing that you are making a difference in your local community.
Here’s my tribute to Small Business Saturday:
